About Dr. Deepak Khazanchi

Dr. Deepak Khazanchi is Professor of Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Community Engagement and Internationalization Officer in the College of Information Science & Technology (IS&T) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Prior to becoming Associate Dean, he served as chair of the Information Systems & Quantitative Analysis department in the College of IS&T. He is also an affiliate faculty in UNO’s International Studies & Programs. He has served as a visiting faculty for the University of Agder (Kristiansand), Norway and at the Management Center Innsbruck (Austria). He also has courtesy affiliations as a graduate faculty/scholar with the University of Central Florida and Sir Padmpat Singhania University, India. He serves on the Board of Management for the Sir Padmpat Singhania University (India) and the International Executive Council for Bennett University (India). Dr. Khazanchi’s current research interests are focused in the areas of virtual project management, disaster ehealth, mutual knowledge, project management best practices, B2B assurance services and risk analysis in extended enterprise environments, and the application of philosophy of science in the Information Systems discipline. His research has been published in various peer-reviewed journals including The ISACA Journal, Communications of the Association of Information Systems (CAIS), Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), Electronic Markets, Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Management, Journal of Information Technology Management, ACM’s DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, Journal of Computer Information Systems, American Journal of Business, and Information Processing and Management. He has also made presentations in national/international peer-reviewed conferences and given practitioner-oriented talks/seminars to companies and organizations in the USA and Norway on a variety of topics such as: “Beyond Innovation: Using Transformative Thinking Must Be Part of Our Daily Work”, “Issues in Global Project Management”, “Best Practices in IT project Management,” “Project Management Assurance”, and “Patterns of Effective Virtual Project Management.” Dr. Khazanchi has been engaged in collaborative interactions with the business community through various R&D projects and service to the IT profession and community at the regional, national and international levels. He has served as the President of the Midwest Association of Information Systems (http://www.mwais.org), AMCIS representative member of the Association of Information Systems Council (http://www.aisnet.org), and the AMCIS Site Advisory committee. Deepak is the founding chair of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Special Interest Group for IT Project Management (http://www.SIGITProjMgmt.org) and hosted its inaugural international research workshop on IT PM in Milwaukee, WI in December of 2006. This conference is now held annually in conjunction with the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). He has served as the conference co-chair of the Americas Conference in Information Systems (AMCIS) held in Omaha from August 11-14th, 2005. He has also served as the VP of Programs for the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Heartland Chapter. Dr. Khazanchi arrived in academics after working in managerial and technical positions with responsibility for designing structures (bridges and buildings) and as a project engineer for a multinational construction project. He received the Ph.D. degree with a specialization in Management Information Systems from Texas Tech University. Prior to this, he earned the MBA degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and obtained an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur (India).
